Contention Based Access Misbehavior in WLAN Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
The focus of this thesis lies in investigating possible abuse of the standardized medium access protocol 802.11a within Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). By modifying the Contention Window (CW), a network can capture more traffic in expense of its rivals. The competing network scenarios are modeled by the use of Game Theory, applying simple and repeated form games. We argue that by modifying the Contention Window, based on respective network parameters and by simple interaction between the contending networks, a superior performance than provided by the standard can be obtained. The network’s performance is measured in terms of the system capacity as well as system saturation throughput.

Performance Analysis of Contention Window Cheating Misbehaviors in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of nodes that can be rapidly deployed as a multi-hop network without the aid of any centralized administration. Misbehavior is challenged by bandwidth and energy efficient medium access control and fair share of throughput. Node misbehavior plays an important role in MANET. In this survey, few of the contention window misbehavior is reviewed and com...
متن کاملDiagnosing and Penalizing MAC Layer Misbehavior in Wireless Networks
Wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols such as IEEE 802.11 use distributed contention resolution mechanisms for sharing the wireless channel. In this environment, selfish hosts that fail to adhere to the MAC protocol may obtain an unfair share of the channel bandwidth. For example, IEEE 802.11 requires nodes competing for access to the channel to wait for a “backoff” interval, randomly ...

Transmission opportunity limit and contention window are two influenced parameters in accessing the media in the networks based IEEE 802.11e standard. In these networks, every wireless station by setting of its contention window value, determines the chance of access to wireless media. Furthermore, a transmission opportunity limit provides a period of transmission without contact for a station....
متن کاملThroughput and QoS Optimization in IEEE 802.11 WLAN
In a wireless LAN (WLAN) based on IEEE 802.11, supporting multiple classes of services with QoS constraints in MAC layer is very important. In this paper, we propose a class-based analytical model to support multiple traffic classes. Through investigating the relationship between access control parameters, such as contention window (CW) sizes and inter-frame space (IFS) under QoS constraints, w...
متن کاملPerformance Enhancement of IEEE 802.11e WLAN by Dynamic Adaptive Contention Window
The service differentiation and adaptation are the important mechanisms for enhancing the performance of IEEE 802.11wireless local area networks (WLANs). However, all these mechanisms will have limitations for dealing high bandwidth streaming applications. The service differentiation technique proposed in IEEE 802.11e [4] mainly considers the signal with higher priority values to access the wir...
